Our Diocesan Mission Christ calls us to live like Him, in Word, Sacrament, Prayer and Service amongst others The Diocese of Argyll & The Isles is possibly the largest Diocese in Scotland geographically, but the smallest in the number of its members. We stretch from the northern tip of Lewis to the Mull of Kintyre, as well as the mainland of Argyll, taking in all the Hebrides and the islands of Skye, Mull, Iona and many smaller ones in the north, and Bute, Arran and Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde. Be assured, if you visit one of the churches of a warm welcome from the people, even if the weather can make your journey interesting and eventful! The concept of Local Collaborative Ministry, aimed at involving many more people in playing key roles in the church ministry (ordained and lay) is of vital importance to us, and although only recently formalised provincially, it is well established in our Diocese. In a scattered Diocese such as ours where many congregations are unable to support a stipendiary priest, we hope, through Local Collaborative Ministry, to provide an active worshipping and caring Christian community for everyone, whether resident or visitor. |

We have two Cathedrals, St. John's in Oban and The Cathedral of The Isles in Millport, Isle of Cumbrae, (the smallest Cathedral in the British Isles). The Cathedral of the Isles with its attached College of the Holy Spirit, together with Bishop's House, Iona, are operated as retreat and quiet holiday houses, offering a warm welcome to visitors of all denominations and from all over the world. The Diocese also has a Bell-Tower in Inveraray, well known in the world of campanology. Most churches reflect a catalogue of historical events, and ours are no exception. Many are fine examples of ecclesiastical architecture and that, inevitably, brings a financial burden to keep them satisfactorily maintained! We are indebted not only to Historic Scotland, to the Heritage Lottery fund and to the Scottish Churches Architectural Heritage Trust, but also to the Province, to Charitable Trusts, official bodies, businesses and a large number of caring individuals who have helped us in this over the years. The Scottish Episcopal Church is a part of the worldwide Anglican Communion and is in communion with the Church of England. We use the latest technology to achieve speedy (and regular) contact, but also to spread the Gospel and to offer opportunities for distance learning in our remote communities. We hope you find something in our web pages to arouse your interest, but don't stop there: do come to visit us in the Diocese of Argyll as soon as you can. You won't regret it, we promise!
