Brief Description of the area.

The church serves an area covering most of Kintyre. The population is around 6,000. the main industries are fishing, farming and tourism. Economically, the area has declined from former times, but a Danish firm has opened a factory manufacturing turbines for wind farms. Because property is relatively inexpensive, people who have retired or who are looking for a holiday home, often move into the area.

Campbeltown The Church and its services.

The Episcopalian congregation was formally constituted in the town in 1848. It is the most southerly congregation in the Diocese, the nearest congregation to it being at Lochgilphead, 50 miles due north.

At present the church is usually able to sustain two services on a Sunday each week. Visitors are asked to check the noticeboard on the Church Porch or the Campbeltown Courier for any variation in service times.
At 8.30 am a said Communion Service, using the 1970 Liturgy, is taken by one of the retired priests.

At 10.45 am, a sung Communion Service, using the 1982 Liturgy, with an address, is led by the Ministry Team. On the first Sunday of the month, sung Morning Prayer replaces Holy Communion. On that occasion, instead of an address, the Ministry of the Word takes the form of a congregational discussion.

The Vestry supports the use of Gaelic in the Liturgy.

The congregation is active in supporting the Scottish Episcopal Church Missionary Association and other charitable concerns.

Ongoing developments.

In addition to the Ministry Team, other members of the congregation participate by leading intercessions and reading lessons. As Local Collaborative Ministry has developed, the congregation has learned to embrace change and to be creative in its worship. It has participated in an Annual Review through the Provincial LCM Officer. It is fully committed to the principle of making its church more inviting.
