History

This historic building, which dates from about the 12th Century, was completely restored (1911-12), at a cost of £2,000, under the direction of Mr J S Richardson, FSA (Scot), architect to the Ancient Monuments Commissioners. The building is legally secured to the Scottish Episcopal Church.

In recent years, a grant from the Historic Buildings Council has allowed necessary repairs to the roof, walls and windows to be carried out.

The church is open from Easter Day until the end of October. At other times access can be arranged by telephoning 01851 820657, or 01851 820559.
Carol Service at St Moluag's Eoropie
After many years when the church was seldom used, regular services were resumed in 1994 when a new congregation was instituted by the Bishop to extend the ministry of the Scottish Episcopal Church in Lewis. This congregation maintains regular services but as the church has no heating or lighting, it is unsuitable for use in winter, so more suitable premises for year-round use were acquired (a redundant village shop and post office) at Tong near Stornoway, and have been converted into an attractive, modern, multipurpose church that will serve not only the congregation but also the local community. The Bishop of Argyll and The Isles dedicated the new church on 8th May 2000.

This is a very small congregation, with two buildings to maintain. We are grateful for the grants and loans we have received, and are working hard to raise funds to repay the loans, but we need help. We invite donations, large or small, which can be sent to the Vestry Treasurer: Mr D McKee, 21 Upper Coll, Back, Isle of Lewis, HS2 0LS

Your donation will be very much appreciated, and cheques should be made payable to: St Moluag's Episcopal Church.

Interest in the old church at Eoropaidh is truly international and our visitors throughout the summer months include people from all over the world. This is an attractive venue for weddings - in fact regularly attracting couples wishing to get married from across the globe.

If you are visiting the Western Isles please include this interesting church in your itinerary - you will be made very welcome both at Eoropaidh and at Tong.

Friends of St Moluags.

The Friends of St Moluag's was set up in 1991 to raise money for repairs and maintenance of the church at Eoropaidh. This is a very active non-denominational group who have contributed greatly to the upkeep and the appearance of the Great Church. If you would like to join or would like to know more about it, follow this link to their website, www.saintmoluag.com
